Reasons Why

Why do you exercise? Or maybe I should ask, why do you not exercise? I heard Chalene Johnson say that exercise is what you do when you love yourself. Do you love yourself enough to exercise? How about your children? Many people I have met started taking time to exercise not so much for themselves, but for their children. So that they would have the energy to be there and share experiences with their children.

Late afternoon tomorrow, my family and I will go camping. I have an exercise program that I am in the middle of. So here will the deciding factor as to how determined I am to stick with this program. I will have every excuse to not do it. I will be walking a lot, I don’t believe there is an inside facility to use. So I’ll be exercising in the somewhat open space. I’ve done every workout once so I have an idea how to do them. So that shouldn’t be too embarrassing. But will I get up in the morning and actually press play? I have my Facebook friends I’ve been reporting to. I’ve talked about every exercise beginning the second week. I must keep that up. I must make this transformation work. I must prove to myself and others that this can be done. This is hard work, but it is doable. You just have to want it. You have to decide to do it, commit to doing it, and then you will succeed. That is the tagline of Beachbody, Decide. Commit. Succeed. I want to succeed. I want to no longer be that guy who is in OK shape, but usually has a bit of a belly. That guy who keeps his waist size right around the at risk size for heart disease. I want to be far away from all of those indicators. I want to be able to play with my great-grandchildren. I want to be a 90 year old who helps the 70 year olds in the assisted living and refers to them as kid. I want to be that guy. I want exceptional health.

I can get into so much here, this is why I changed my eating from medium prime rib to vegan. This is why I study theology. This is why I became a Beachbody coach.  Health now and in the future is what is driving me to do many of the things I do. I think it was the Rolling Stones who said, “If we had known we would live this long, we would have taken better care of our bodies.” This is a good lesson. I’m planning to live a long time. If I die tomorrow, it will all be OK. I know that health and fitness may not add years to my life, but it will add life to my years. I need this fitness now to enjoy my children, and I want it in the future for their children and their children’s children.

Does anybody else have this kind of view of health?

I know some of you want to lose weight and get in shape but exercising hurts and you may feel uncomfortable at the gym. Help is here! The 21 Day Fix is approachable, modifiable and done completely at home. The test groups for 21 Day Fix included fit people as well as people with 100+ pounds to lose, to be sure that anyone could be successful with this program. Did you catch that, ANYONE. This means you.

Afraid you will have to give up everything you like to eat? The 21 Day Fix Eating Plan shows you how to incorporate treats (like chocolate and wine) into the plan . . . and you can still lose weight.

Afraid the exercises will be too tough? There’s a modifier in every workout to show you how to take down the intensity while still getting awesome results.

This stuff works. A friend of mine used 21 Day Fix and lost 18 pounds. That’s right 18. There is even a guarantee if you don’t like the program you can return it in 30 days and get a refund. There is really nothing to lose but those extra pounds.

Crazy Yesterday

Well I said that yesterday was a crazy day, and I meant it. So the highlights were: Morning exercise, Beachbody Super Sunday with a workout with Tony Horton. Then Frisbee with the kids that then broke out into an Ultimate game. It was me and the neighbor girls against 3 boys, well one is in his 20’s. Then some reading with my 3 year old.

I started the day with a difficult upper body exercise. Eccentric Upper. This exercise includes things like doing a push up where you go down slowly and push up fast. Pull ups, up fast down slow. I’m still doing modified pull ups, but I’m showing up and getting better.

After this 30 minutes of tough upper body exercise, I drank my Shakeology. I added the peanut butter, vanilla, and cashew milk. I drank that then helped with breakfast for the kids, and shared in the steel cut oatmeal. We had to get out the door, but not for church this time. We were heading to a quarterly meeting with Beachbody called Super Saturday. Oh, wait it wasn’t Saturday, it was Sunday. For some reason I have yet to learn, Portland meets on Sunday. Saturday would work much better for us, but since this was the first one we would be able to attend, we decided to go for it. Especially since the CEO Carl Daikeler AND fitness celebrity Tony Horton was going to be there. So off we go to drop off our kids with some wonderful friends and former neighbors. They weren’t skipping church, they meet in the evening. So as long as we are back in time, they are happy to help out.

Down the road we went to the Portland Convention Center were over 1,000 other coaches were gathering. We found my wife’s coach and stayed with her the rest of the time there. There were some wonderful transformation stories and some good Beachbody information. For instance, 21 Day Fix is on sale until the end of the month. I have to learn to be a better coach, I did not realize it was on sale. The CEO, Carl Daikeler, spoke for a while. He has a great personality and speaks with ease. I’ve worked for other companies where I wanted the CEO to take some basic public speaking class. Carl is dynamic without trying. It is probably natural to him. He reminded everyone that this business is about helping people and if someone comes into this business with any other intents, they will not be compatible and the system will reject them. This sounds great because that is one of the reasons I joined Beachbody, to help other people. This highly approachable way into exercise can help everybody. Carl also talked a little about the 30 day money back guarantee. I had not really noticed this before. But there is this amazing guarantee that even if you used all of the Shakeology, if you are not satisfied after 30 days simply return it and your money is refunded. That is a great guarantee. No risk. If you don’t get the results, return it.

After Carl spoke, we all picked up our chairs and moved them to the side. We then exited into the hallway where it was picture time. We were given the opportunity to have our pictures taken with Carl and Tony. After the picture I shook their hands. These two men are doing a lot to help other people in so many ways. I am excited to be working with them.

On to the exercise! If you are taking notes, this is my second exercise of the day. From what I gathered it was a modification of a P90X routine. I noticed a few differences from the P90X3. He had a nice warm up and we were off. Now this is a room that was just seating a little over 1,000 people, now about that some number were exercising. Any big movements could result in causing harm to a neighbor. So we were on the ground doing pushups and kicks. We were even doing some MMA moves. Talk about needing to be careful. We also did a good bit of work in plank. My abs are hurting just thinking about that work.

After the exercise was a drawing for door prizes. They were mainly T-shirts of the Beachbody programs. My wife won a ladies P90X3 T-shirt. I told her she should do P90X3 in the not too distant future.

With all these people we ran late. We thought about leaving before the drawings, but thought it wouldn’t take too long. We didn’t realize that they were going to do that many drawings and that a lot of numbers were called out for people who had left. So this took some time too. We probably should have left and gave our numbers to my wife’s coach.

We were now running late to pick up our kids from some wonderful friends who may be more than ready for us to have returned. We were also hungry because it was around 3:00 and breakfast was long gone. Note to self, bring more than a Lara Bar next time. We picked up our children, apologized to our friends, and took our kids home. Now lunch for us.

Our kids went down to play with the neighbors. We are all great friends. My wife and I went down there too to visit and help keep an eye on everyone. I brought my Frisbee to help entertain some kids, and to make sure I got my steps in. While we were throwing the Frisbee around a game of Ultimate broke out. I did not start it, a few of the kids did. We ended up with a good group, age range 6 up to me. This was now my third exercise. I thought I held on well, especially for my third exercise of the day.

Afterwards, I went up to the house to eat again and start taking kids home. My youngest came home with me and I asked him if we wanted to read a book. We read Goodnight Moon then a Thomas the Train book. He got board of the Thomas book and had me rea Goodnight Moon a few more times. It was a good close to a busy day.

Today I feel like I may be a little deficient on my calorie consumption. I’m still studying the 21 Day Fix containers. They are set up for omnivores and I am not. I want to understand them so I can do better with my eating, but also to help my wife and others. Portion control is a difficult thing, and a very important thing.

I will keep learning all I can and I am willing to help anyone who would like my help. Just contact me here, at Beachbody, or on Facebook. It doesn’t have to be a Beachbody program. I am using them because I believe in them and love the results I have seen in others and am seeing in myself.

I was at a big Beachbody event yesterday and I was told a couple of things I will be saying a few times this week. First thing is that all Beachbody programs and Shakeology have a money back guarantee. Even if the bag is empty. Second there is a sale that ends at the end of the month. It is a very popular program. 21 Day Fix has an amazing eating plan it really helps with portion control and it has  an approachable exercise. Here is a video. I’ll post more later, but I want to make sure everyone knows that for the next few days it is on sale.  Sorry I did not tell you earlier.

What Shakeology Did for Me Today

This morning after my workout and my wonderful fruit smoothie, I was feeling tired and a little cranky. I couldn’t figure out what it was. I wanted to feel good and have some fun with the kids, but just wasn’t feeling it. Late in the afternoon I was looking for a snack and realized I had not had my Shakeology yet. I mixed the Vegan Chocolate up with some cashew milk, peanut butter vanilla, ice and water. I enjoyed drinking it, as I always do, especially when it has peanut butter and vanilla extract in it. What surprised me is how I felt. I was feeling good again. I soon grabbed the Frisbee and played with my kids and some of the neighbor kids. It was good fun running around and playing.

I started asking myself, “What is in this that would make me feel better.” Maybe it is something illegal. 🙂 I have experienced a reduction in cravings, and a better ability to control my portion of food, but what is it? So I looked at some more information.  I found that Shakeology ” is made from fruits, veggies, antioxidants, probiotics and protein. It’s all natural; no caffeine; no artificial flavors or sweeteners; no GMO’s. There is even a shot of wheat grass in every serving. It’s basically 70+ all natural sources of fuel designed for your body, and if you read the label you’ll actually recognize the ingredients! (Quinoa, spinach, blueberries, wheat grass, flax, chia seeds, and acai berry…).” I have read the ingredients. There are some I do not recognize. One was Reishi. I found on the web that Reishi is a mushroom and:

  • It is non-toxic and can be taken daily without producing any side effects.
  • When it is taken regularly, it can restore the body to its natural state, enabling all organs to function normally.
  • Immune modulator – regulates and fine tunes the immune system.

How’s that for an ingredient? This could be the reason I felt better. Maybe my organs weren’t functioning normally. I know I wasn’t feeling like myself.

It could have been the antioxidants and the probiotics. There is a lot in there, so I’m not sure. I’m just glad I have it. From now on, I must drink it in the mornings.

I am selling Shakeology. I am doing it because it in amazing stuff and the more I learn about it, the more I want others to try it. A sampler can be purchased here. This super sampler has all six flavors. If you are a vegan, or can’t do whey for any number of reasons check out the vegan taste sampler. The vegan taste sampler has two of each vegan flavor. I like both, but I really like the chocolate.

Contact me if you want more information. This is really great stuff.

Here is a nice little video about what is in Shakeology: What’s in Shakeology?

Motivational Breakage

The last couple of days I’ve had quite a few things break. Yesterday morning the vehicle I use to get to work would not start. The battery was dead. I jumped it off and went on my way. I was thinking that something must have been left on over the weekend and my wife turned it off. Either way, I needed to get to work.

When I returned to my vehicle after work, it would not start. Well, I could try to get someone to give me a jump. I could call AAA and they could help. But I decided to walk the 2 blocks or so to the auto parts store and buy a new battery. This seemed like the quickest and longest term solution.

As I was returning to my vehicle I was very glad I have been exercising because batteries are heavy. I am not sure if Tony Horton had carrying a battery in order to get home as part of the reason for creating P90X3, but it was reason enough yesterday.

Speaking of P90X3, as I was preparing to do what turned out to be a killer exercise, I noticed the TV or the DVD player was not behaving as per usual. Instead of attempting to troubleshoot the problem, like any good engineer would, I sided with expediency and used the portable DVD player I had used this weekend to complete my exercise while the kids were watching a movie.

Later this morning I decided to have my Shakeology for breakfast since that was such an intense workout. It was Accelerator of the P90X3 program. After my Shakeology I blended up some lunch to take with me. The mighty Blendtec sounded strange. I have heard that sound before. It was the sound of the seal seizing up. This had happened before. My lunch was ruined, but worst yet, the blender was no longer usable. I think they fail because I have not heeded the “proper care and maintenance” portion of the agreement. The next one I shall do better.

So here I am with many failures. Some are due to normal wear, some to abuse (I’m sure the kids had something to do with the TV) and some to negligence. What I learn from this is that things fail for many reasons. We can get caught up in why and beat ourselves up over it. Or we can accept and learn from the failure. We do not have failures, we have successes and we have learning opportunities. The only failures we have are those opportunities of which we do not learn from.

Now, I had better examine that TV before tomorrow’s exercise.

Why I Became a Beachbody Coach.

I have studied nutrition and running for about 12 years. I have been out of running for about a year. Running takes a good bit of time out of my day, at least an hour. I cannot run at my house because we live in a mountain range. It is something to build up to, not start at. I came to Beachbody reluctantly. My wife started doing PiYo. It sounded crazy and looked like too much movement for me. I am certainly use to basic movements. I learned to lift weights in high school, and I learned to run on the treadmill. Basic movements repeated a lot. Maybe I don’t need to say here that I’m not a very talented dancer. So my wife was doing PiYo and enjoying it. She started losing a little weight and was getting excited about what she was doing. Good for her, I thought. Well, there was a lady at work who had been doing some crazy exercise videos too. She went on and on about how great they were. She lost 27 pounds. Well I found out that what my coworker was doing and what my wife was doing were related. Maybe there is something to this. Then I learned that my wife was buying Shakeology. Oh great, a “lose weight quick” gimmick. Guess what, my coworker was taking Shakeology as well. My wife showed me one of the Sakeology commercials on YouTube and I though it funny and well done, but really? So one day I looked at the ingredients. Now remember, I have a number of years running and eating to run better. I have two marathons under my belt, and thousands of miles. I have been a raw vegan 95% for a year and about 70% now. I am also a certified Family Herbalist. I at least like to think I know a little about nutrition. I was blown away by the ingredients. Some of them so exotic I had to Google them. It really is packed with superfoods. So maybe there is something to this Beachbody thing.

I then took some time to look at lots of videos of the exercises and the results. I found myself thinking the same thing I thought when first introduced to raw vegan, “If half of what they are claiming is true, I want it.” So I signed up for P90X3. I was excited about getting serious results with only 30 minutes a day. After a week or so of this, I decided I wanted to be a coach. A day or so before my wife convinced me to be a coach, I reached out to my Facebook friends and family to help me stay accountable to keep up with the exercises. Being a coach gives me a discount on the Shakeology, which I really believe is helping, and also helps with accountability. If I am a coach, my physique should reflect that. So now I have Facebook and Coaching to keep me accountable.

Being a coach also puts me in a great place to help others. I come from a state that is typically number one for obesity. Those aren’t statistics, those are my family and childhood friends. I have been looking for an avenue to help the South to get out of their poor health. I found help in the Pacific Northwest, and I want to share my knowledge. Beachbody’s main goal is to eliminate obesity. That is a goal I can join with happily. I will work to get in amazing shape while I am showing others that it can be done.
